Last Friday night on August 4th, community gathered in downtown Dayton’s Oregon District to remember Megan Betts, Monica Brickhouse, Nicholas Cumer, Derrick Fudge, Thomas Nichols, Lois Oglesby, Saeed Saleh, Logan Turner, and Beatrice Warren-Curtis, who were killed by a mass shooter.
Along with providing various mental health resources to those who need them, the even also had live music from Luv Lox, as well as from American Idol winner Tobias Hill. Along with enjoying food and drinks, many event goers were pleased to learn about the plan for the permanent memorial to honor the victims of August 4th, 2019.
As the community gathered for the annual memorial to celebrate those who were lost that fateful night, the evening was centered around growing and healing together, supporting one another.
The Foundation also announced the recipient of second annual Derrick Fudge Memorial Scholarship, Aaron Clements. This scholarship aims to break the stigma of mental health within the Black community, as well as to train our community members to be thoughtful and intentional members of society.
We are honored to be able to provide a safe space for anyone to come and mourn, receive comfort, and celebrate those who died that night, and to ensure their legacies are remembered.
